CONCORD HOSPITAL TRUST 18 Charged with “doing something nice for someone,” seven-year-old Evie Rowell got to work, using her compassion — and her skills as an artist — to give back to her community. Last spring, Evie, then a second grader at Moultonborough Elementary School, won a $100 gift card at a “Chaos and Kindness” event, sponsored by the New Hampshire-based band Recycled Percussion. The band is known for spreading love and humanity, and for challenging its fans to do the same. When Evie received the money, she decided to create care packages to deliver to patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Concord Hospital – Laconia. When asked what motivated her heartwarming project, Evie said, “Because they don’t always have family.” The packages, 15 of them in total, were delivered on April 16, 2025. The donation was in part inspired by the fact that Evie’s aunt, Kylee Rowell, is an oncology nurse within the Concord Hospital Health System. “Evie’s thoughtful gesture,” her proud aunt said, “is a beautiful reminder that even the smallest hands can make a big difference.” “All too often, we see patients go without visits from friends or loved ones, and that breaks our hearts,” Kylee Rowell said. “Evie’s inspiring act brought hope to patients and staff alike at the hospital. I could not be prouder to be Evie’s aunt.” Each package included a handmade card, a colorful (and cheerful) pinwheel, and a personalized gift bag, thoughtfully assembled by Evie. Along with the patient gifts, she also delivered a large wicker basket overflowing with snacks and goodies for the ICU nurses. “Evie’s act of kindness is a reminder of how fortunate we are to serve the people of the Lakes Region,” Concord Hospital Health System President and CEO Robert P. Steigmeyer said. “ This selfless deed reminded our critical-care patients that their community is behind them and showed our staff how deeply their life- saving work matters to our region.” DONOR PROFILE | Evie Rowell Evie’s inspiring act brought hope to patients and staff alike at the hospital.
