CONCORD HOSPITAL TRUST
28
For over a century, the Segal family has
been deeply committed to supporting
the local community, and Concord
Hospital has benefited from their
generosity. Although he tends to shy
away from any credit, Bobby Segal has
quietly donated his time and resources
to giving back to the hospital for years.
Segal’s family has been involved with
Concord Hospital for generations.
In the 1940s, his grandmother and
great-uncles donated to support the
organization in memory of his great-
grandfather, Benjamin Sanel. Segal’s
father and other relatives also have
played active roles by volunteering,
fundraising, and serving on the Board.
As CEO of Sanel NAPA, a 105-year-old
auto parts chain with 47 locations
throughout Northern New England,
that he runs with his twin brother,
David, Bobby has continued this proud
tradition of philanthropy. In 2019, Sanel
NAPA boosted its giving by joining the
Concord Hospital Trust’s Benefactors
Circle. The distinction is reserved for
businesses that make $10,000 or more
in gifts for three consecutive years.
As both a trustee of Concord Hospital
Health System (CHHS) (and the chair
of its Finance and Compensation
Committees) and vice chair of the Trust
Board, Segal is devoted to ensuring the
Hospital’s long-term sustainability.
The Benefactors Circle is just one more
way to demonstrate that devotion,
and Segal agreed to speak about
his family’s financial commitment to
inspire others to follow suit. Segal
hopes that by sharing his family’s story,
he can encourage other businesses in
the Concord community to become
benefactors of the hospital as well.
He sees it as an investment in the
wellbeing of the entire region rather
than just a donation.
“To support the community that has
supported our business for a hundred
years has always been our way,” Segal
explains. “Other companies considering
joining the Benefactors Circle should
know that the valuable resource will
be a sound investment in a financially
strong and well-run institution, the
CHHS. I view my family’s business as
an investor back into our community,
and there is a priceless return on that
investment; the quality of life that
comes from supporting our friends and
neighbors.”
For Segal, in addition to continuing
the family tradition of supporting
the hospital, his dedication is also
profoundly personal. When several
family members required long-term
and acute treatment at Concord
Hospital, he saw firsthand the
exceptional care and support provided
to patients and their loved ones. He has
not forgotten it.
“The hospital is the center of our
community,” Segal says. “It’s an honor
and a responsibility to do my part.”
