b'NURSING HIGHLIGHTS 2022FAMILY HEALTH CENTER: Partnering in CareEmily BogleRN, BSN I REFUGEE NURSE COORDINATOR FAMILY HEALTH CENTERLast spring, colleagues from the Concord Hospital Family Health Center including Refugee Nurse Coordinator Emily Bogle, RN, BSN, Linda E. Haller, MD, MPH, Ellen Plumb, MD, and Joni Haley, MS, LMFT collaborated with the NH State Refugee Health Coordinator Laura McGlashan from the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Health Equity, post-doctoral intern Priyanka Khadka from Riverbend Community Mental Health Center, and NH photographer and author Becky Field from Fieldwork Photos to facilitate a Photo Documentary Project with refugees. This project was generously funded through a grant from the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts. The goal of the project was to engage and empower new Americans to share their stories about their resettlement experiences, while decreasing stigma and also limiting the impact of culturally embedded ideas about talking about hard things. The project used photographs and participants spoken narratives to document their resettlement experiences by responding to the question What makes it easier or more difficult to resettle?Twenty-one refugees participated in the project in three small groups: a coed group from Bhutan; a womens group (consisting of refugees from Afghanistan, Sudan and Morocco) and a mens group (consisting of refugees from Afghanistan and Sudan). Each group met at least three times, and was facilitated by a combination of providers. of participants experiences and needs.The project allowed participants and healthcare providers to get to know each other outside the clinic setting, which appeared to lead to GREATER TRUST. Participants and providers alike enjoyed and benefitted greatly from participating in the project.
