b'NURSING HIGHLIGHTS 2022Cardiothoracic SurgeryCardiothoracic surgery teams worked hard to build collaborative relationships with all of the supportive services we have within the organization, to include cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation services, dental care, dietary, nurse navigation and home care service agencies. This all in effort to ensure that our patients receive the highest quality of care and support that we can provide. Dawn Doucet, RN , MSN Vascular Interventional Radiology We have successfully integrated Vascular Surgery and Outpatient Interventional Radiology into the Cardiovascular service line. The Vascular Surgery nursing team have been crucial to the success of integrating these specialties and the services they offer. This integration has facilitated the creation of the Integrated Vascular Clinic, which is a collaboration between Interventional Cardiology, Vascular Surgery and Interventional Radiology. The primary focus is on patients with peripheral arterial disease, who may need interventions from multiple specialists. Patients are screened by nursing to determine if they would benefit from these integrated services. Nursing has also eagerly supported the launch of venous ablation procedures in the office utilizing varying modalities, as part of our Vein Care Center. Dawn Doucet, RN, MSNCardiovascular / Cardiac CatheterizationLab / Cardiovascular Operating RoomThe Cardiac Surgery team, including Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) nurses, perfusionists, cardiac surgeons and OR leadership, collaborate to support structural heart, electrophysiology and high risk percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) cases performed in the catheterization lab at Concord Hospital - Concord. The team is often in the catheterization lab on standby with their equipment at the ready for various procedures. The structural heart team is progressive and innovative and we are now one of the few sites providing the majority of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) cases using nurse led sedation. Many other facilities are trying to model this innovation and our patient outcomes have been great. Our providers share that our catheterization lab nurses are the key to the success of this program. We have reduced costs, eliminated waste and improved team communication all while enhancing the patient experience. -Bethany Bourcier, RN, MSHA P L E | I N T E G R A T I O N | T R A N S F O R M A T I O N Quality Nursing is often referred to as a caring role. Cardiac patients experience the full diversity of care that nursing has to offer as they support patients through coordination of services, testing, procedures and hospitalizations. There are many nurses and patient care coordinators who are less visible, but also contribute to the care of patients by maintaining data and registries that help us to see the broader picture of care outcomes and opportunities. Areas of focused intervention to improve quality include readiness for surgery, documentation of pre and post medication, optimization of order sets and reducing readmissions. Thank you to all of our team members whose collaborative efforts allow us to offer excellent cardiovascular care to our patients. Gretchen Andrews, RN, BSN, CPPSP E O24'
